On Sunday, July 28th, Irish golfer Conor Purcell captured his first Challenge Tour title at the 2024 Black Desert NI Open in Galgorm Castle Golf Club.

Purcell, who hails from Portmarnock Golf Club, finished with an impressive score of -13, one stroke ahead of Swede Joakim Lagergren. The 27-year-old became the first Irish golfer to win on the Challenge Tour since the now-retired Michael Hoey won the co-sanctioned Madeira Islands Open in 2011.Conor Purcell winner of Northern Irish Open

The win at Galgorm Castle Golf Club was a testament to Purcell’s dedication and skill as he expertly navigated the course, staying in the top five throughout the weekend.

This victory marks a significant milestone in his career and propels him up the Road to Mallorca Rankings, where he now sits in fourth place with 683 points. This leap of 20 places underscores the impact of his performance and sets a promising trajectory for the remainder of the season.

Purcell’s triumph at Galgorm has also catapulted him up the Official World Golf Ranking. He is now ranked 366th in the world, making him the fourth-best-ranked Irish golfer, trailing only behind renowned names such as Shane Lowry, Seamus Power, and Padraig Harrington.

Speaking to the Challenge Tour, Conor said, “One of my goals at the start of the year was to win on the Challenge Tour. I’ve put myself into winning positions a few times this season and not got over the line, so it was nice to do it so close to home last week.

“It kind of felt like I was playing in my back garden because I was hitting fairways and getting cheers from the crowd. It was a surreal environment, especially walking up 18 because I could soak it all in.

Purcell’s victory is a significant personal and professional achievement, and Mahony Fleet is delighted to help Conor on his journey to success. Read more about Conor’s partnership with Mahony Fleet.
